In a recent post, I talked about the remarkable power of external frequencies on our brainwaves and how audible stimuli can help to guide our minds to desired states for hypnosis, meditation, sleep, stress relief and more.
But not all sounds are made equal.
In fact, some frequencies and tones have been shown to have a very specific impact on our emotions and our consciousness. For example, some tones resonate with our feelings of guilt and fear, whereas other frequencies may speak to our feelings of joy and desire.
The impact of such frequencies has been the subject of substantial psychological research and debate for decades. But the concept may have originated much longer ago. A series of frequencies known as the Solfeggio Scale, developed hundreds of years ago, has been shown to have a powerful effect on how we feel.
What is the Solfeggio Scale?
The Solfeggio Scale is a six-tone scale of musical frequencies that have been shown to have a positive impact on the human mind. It’s believed that the scale was first introduced in the 11th century by a Benedictine monk named Guido d’Arezzo (though some historians argue the scale may date back to Biblical times).
Historians believe the scale was incorporated into Gregorian chants. Sometimes referred to as “Just Intonation,” the scale is comprised of six tones of the following frequencies: 396 Hz, 417 Hz, 528 Hz, 639 Hz, 741 Hz and 852 Hz.
Those are the specific tones that play unique roles in maintaining balance in our mind, body and emotional state.
How do the Solfeggio frequencies affect you?
Okay, so what exactly does the Solfeggio Scale do? Which Solfeggio frequencies cause which emotions, and what are the benefits?
Here’s what we know about how each of the tones affects our wellbeing:
- 396 Hz: This frequency has been shown to help free our minds from feelings of guilt, fear and worry. More specifically, the frequency is often used to flip those negative feelings on their head, turning them into joy and contentment.
- 417 Hz: This frequency can play a role in lifting the weight of negative experiences, memories and situations. These negative experiences often create roadblocks for hypnosis and other states, so the frequency is used to clear the mind and facilitate change.
- 528 Hz: This frequency has been shown to have a positive impact on healing and DNA repair. A 2018 study also showed that 528 Hz music had “an especially strong stress-reducing effect, even after only five minutes of exposure.”
- 639 Hz: This frequency plays a powerful role in our ability to connect with the people around us. This can be beneficial for strengthening relationships or unearthing a deep connection with others that may not have been present previously.
- 741 Hz: This frequency has been shown to have a positive impact on our ability to overcome challenges, solve problems and express ourselves more freely.
- 852 Hz: This frequency strengthens the path between ourselves and a higher power or the universe itself. It’s often used to support self-awakenings or to deepen a spiritual connection.
