Ways to Improve Hypnosis Visualization
Visualization is a powerful tool for hypnosis. You can visualize in preparation for a session or as part of a session in order to gain deeper benefits. If you’re experiencing hypnotic resistance or just having a hard time achieving your goals, visualization can also help you break through that block.
Okay, so what is visualization?
Simply put, it’s taking the abstract question, “What do I want?” and transforming it into a tangible image in your head. Providing your subconscious mind with this visualization is like providing yourself a roadmap. Once you have that map, you know where to go and what to do to reach your goal.
It’s not always easy to visualize, so below I’ve outlined some ways you can improve your visualizations.
Figure out what it is you want from hypnosis visualization
Sometimes this is easier said than done! But try to come to a clear understanding of your goals.
Let’s say that you have a particular desire. It could be an act that you found pleasurable, or even just a feeling that gave you joy. You want to experience it again. And again and again. Focus on that thing. Define it in your mind.
Give yourself some visual or auditory stimulus
You do not have to rely purely on your own imagination! Write down your vision. Draw a picture. Assemble a collection of images or quotes that speak to your vision.
Is there a song or a piece of music that relates to what you want? Does it give you a feeling that you want to hold onto? Or does it help you deal with a negative emotion you would like to expunge? Once that audio is connected in your mind to the emotion you seek, listening to it can bring you to your visualization that much quicker.
Use all your senses
When you start your hypnosis visualization, don’t just try to conjure an image. Try to imagine sounds, smells and tastes. Get as detailed as you’re able.
If your goal is really abstract, give yourself free rein to get creative. For example, let’s say you want to let go of a particularly negative memory. You could start off by imagining that the memory is a photograph. What does it look like? What do you do with it? What steps do you take to get rid of it?
Keep pushing and pushing until your vision becomes richer. And remember, this is your vision, not anyone else’s. It doesn’t have to make sense. Feel free to let your imagination run wild.
Be kind to yourself
You have my permission to tone down your expectations!
Not everyone is going to have a Hollywood film running in their mind when they attempt visualizations. You can still get amazing enjoyment out of hypnosis visualization, even if the picture isn’t vivid or you have difficulty conceiving the smells, sounds, etc.
The important thing is to practice your hypnosis visualization regularly and to take each step at a time. Even if you don’t visualize every day, make it a daily routine to think of the life you want or who you want to be.
